This year’s winners of the annual Abie Awards were announced across five categories, highlighting the success of women in technology and their industry supporters. Hosted by nonprofit AnitaB.org, the award winners were recognized in five categories: technical leadership, student of vision, emerging technologist, educational innovation, and social impact.
Brenda Darden Wilkerson, CEO and President of AnitaB.org, spoke about the winners, saying, “The 2019 Abie Award honorees exemplify the power that all of us have to improve our world through technology. In addition to their technical achievements, every individual honored has also built a pathway to her industry for the next generation of women technologists. We’re proud to highlight the accomplishments of these inspirational leaders.”
The top women technologists in each of the five categories are:
- Jhillika Kumar, Georgia Tech student, Student of Vision
- Natalya Bailey, CEO and co-founder of Accion Systems, Emerging Technologist
- Yamilée Toussaint Beach, CEO and founder of STEM From Dance, Educational Innovation
- Nimmi Ramanujam, Director of the Center for Global Women’s Health Technologies at Duke University, Social Impact

Each of the award winners receive a cash prize and an expenses-paid trip to attend the Grace Hopper Celebration this coming October in Orlando, Florida. During the celebration, they have an opportunity to speak at one of the largest conferences of the world’s women technologists. Through the awards, the ceremony, and other initiatives, AnitaB.org works for a future where the world of technology reflects the people and societies it is built for.
