All over the world female entrepreneurs, leaders and technologists demonstrate that there is a role for everyone to improve the world they live in, and nonprofit AnitaB.org recognized five of them with the 2020 Abie Awards. This year’s winners made major strides in five distinct categories, including Technical Leadership, Emerging Leader, Student of Vision, Change Agent, and Technology Entrepreneurship.
The five winners are:
- Lisa Su: Technical Leadership Award for transforming her company from near-bankruptcy to an industry leader.
- Olga Russakovsky: Emerging Leader Award for fighting the bias in Artificial Intelligence via mentorship and research.
- Pelagia Majoni: Student of Vision award by empowering Zimbabwe’s girls to tackle the country’s challenge in food supply with technology.
- Jessica Wade: Change Agent award for taking on gender bias on Wikipedia.
- Tracy Young: Technology Entrepreneurship award for altering how the construction industry leverages technology.
“Every individual honored has built a pathway to help empower the next generation of women technologists, in addition to their own technical achievements,” said CEO and President of AnitaB.org, Brenda Darden Wilkerson. “We’re excited to highlight their accomplishments as we work together in building the workforce of tomorrow by empowering the leaders of today.”
All five winners receive their respective awards during the Virtual Grace Hopper Celebration slated for September 2020 during which each winner is given an opportunity to speak.
