The Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCCNJ) announced this week its new Executive Director, Jazlyn L. Carvajal.  Ms. Caravajal moved to this position following several years of work with the SHCCNJ in event coordination, strategic planning, programming development and public relations.

Having a strong passion for community involvement, Ms. Caravajal consistently contributed to the Latino and urban community. Caravajal acted on this passion and created the Latinas in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Foundation with four other cofounders. The organization is a nationwide nonprofit with a mission to inspire Latinas to pursue and then flourish within STEM-related fields. As cofounder of the organization, Ms. Caravajal has been contributing immensely to the reshaping of the landscape for STEM interest in the Latina and urban community as a whole. SHCCNJ’s new Executive Director has made several appearances on large news providers, such as Univision and Fox News Dallas, promoting the ideals of her uplifting organization.

“We are thrilled, as Jazlyn has the perfect set of skills and experience to represent the Chamber and best support our business community, ‘our familia’”, stated Carlos Medina, Chairman of the SHCCNJ, as part of the announcement.

Ms. Caravajal received her Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and is currently the president of the MIT Club of Northern New Jersey. In her field of civil engineering, Caravajal is one of the prominent female leaders in the region, having successfully managed numerous large-scale construction projects throughout New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts. Caravajal, also the recipient of the Union City Puerto Rican Women of the Year Award, first gained her notoriety upon completing the award-winning $178 million Union City High School, which included a rooftop stadium. In addition, the new Executive Director is a small business owner at Stay Your Own Daily (SOYD), a business development and operations management consulting firm.

A nonprofit organization for over 25-years, the SHCCNJ has become the voice of the more than 80,000 Hispanic-owned businesses across New Jersey.
