The New Jersey Innovation Institute, a corporation invested in bringing New Jersey’s intellectual and technological advancements to innovation labs and industries, has announced that Tomas Gregorio has been appointed Senior Executive Director of Healthcare Systems Innovation at the NJII. He will be overseeing the NJII Healthcare Systems Innovation Lab (i-Lab). The NJII is a corporation founded earlier this year by the New Jersey Institute of Technology(NJIT).

Prior to this appointment, Gregorio worked on a number of other projects aimed at bringing innovation to the forefront of the healthcare space. Working with NJIT, he established the New Jersey Health Information Technology Extension Center (NJ-HITEC), a self-sustaining non-profit within the NJII that collects, stores, and shares patient data. He was also an advisor onthe construction of the NJIT Highlander Health Data Network, a data-sharing system among six hospitals that speeds information-sharing and reduces duplicate testing. Gregorio also served as the senior vice president and COO of Health EC LLC, a health care company that provides technologies such as system-integration services to accountable care organizations and otherhealth care venues.

Gregorio’s move to the NJII is expected to bring a new wave of changes to the corporation. Donald Sebastian, NJII president, expressed his excitement in bringing Gregorio to the NJII team. “I am so happy to have Tom as part of the NJII leadership team. He’s a proven innovator in the healthcare space and has been a valuable partner of NJIT’s since the university begandeveloping programs to guide health care organizations in adopting electronic health record systems and medical information exchanges. We look forward to his energy and vision shaping the integration and growth of our Healthcare Systems i-Lab.”
