Jan 12 2016 – “The mobile revolution lives on,” even it’s its eighth year. That’s according to Flurry Analytics president Simon Khalaf. The company recently released findings to a study on mobile use in 2015, showing a massive 58% growth. The data comes from the company’s annual State of Mobile study for 2015, which gathers data from 2.1 billion smart devices and 3.2 trillion device sessions to analyze trends throughout the world as part of the Yahoo Mobile Developer Suite.

The study defines application use as any opening of an app by a user and performance of a session on that app. Personalization, News & Magazines and Productivity were found to lead the growth rate, each with triple-digit growth. All other categories of apps, with the exception of games, also grew.

“˜Phablets’ ended the year with an impressive growth cycle. That’s the type of device that combines the utility of a smartphone and the size of a tablet to end up in the somewhere in middle in terms of size. Phablet use grew 334% over the past year and is poised to continue ““ phablets made up 27% of all devices activated for Christmas.

Growth rates such as these are uncommon in established industries. Khalaf told Business Wire, “What is even more impressive is the majority of that growth rate came from existing users.”

He estimated that a whopping 40 to 58% of total growth came from these existing users. And with mobile usage hitting an all-time high this holiday season, there are no signs of slowing for 2016.
