Alexander Stern, founder of California-based Startup Attorney IO, LLC has set his sights on changing the practice of law forever, according to a recent press announcement. With the release of legal artificial intelligence (AI), Stern touts that his legal tech startup will “democratize the practice of law so that even the smallest firms can compete with the largest.”
“IO” standing for “input” and “output” in computer science terminology describes how the innovative new AI legal tech platform will allow for the easy input of legal documents for processing, while then generating outputs that are a selection of relevant legal cases. This powerful service will have a price structure that makes its use accessible by both small and large sized legal firms.
The user-friendly platform serves attorneys of all skill levels, allowing them to click on their legal documents to upload them, and from there the AI takes over. It quickly compares them to millions of cases that would take a human legal researcher an exhaustive amount of time to do—specifically to yield the cases most relevant to the submitted document at a reasonable cost to the client. Attorney IO’s technological innovation is being seen as disruptive to current legal practice that favors high paying parties who can afford the priciest firms to do such time consuming and expensive critical research.
“It is essential for the public’s faith in our rule of law to promote not just access to the courts, but also access to real justice,” Stern said in the press release.
The platform particularly addresses the circumstances when small businesses and individuals are faced with exorbitant costs due to exhaustive trials surrounding a complex matter. Attorney IO will change all this by “surfacing the important cases through inexpensive AI rather than high-priced human counsel”.
