The Canopy Growth Corporation (CGC) made history by completing the first legal transfer of cannabis products from Canada to a research partner in the United States. This shipment inaugurates support for medical research and development, and is pursuant to an import permit issued by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Mark Zekulin, Canopy Growth’s Co-CEO and President, talked about this historic transfer in a press release, saying that, “The United States presents a unique market opportunity and as the most established cannabis business in the world we, in turn, offer a unique ability to advance standardization, IP development, and clinical research that can improve the understanding and legal application of cannabis and cannabinoids.”
Sources for cannabis under US federal regulation remain limited in scope as well as genetic diversity. CGC believes that not only can the understanding of medical cannabis be advanced, but it can also add value to the market while enabling rigorous testing standards for products. This benefits Canadians, Americans, and countries all over the globe with legal, approved cannabis-based medical treatments.
