California-based Cepton Technologies, Inc. unveiled its newest technology, the Vista LiDAR sensor, at the annual NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference, held in Silicon Valley this week. Cepton is a leading provider of 3D LiDAR solutions for automotive, industrial and mapping applications. Its’ latest innovation is available immediately for the autonomous vehicle market.
Founded in 2016 the Cepton team has already launched its fourth product in the The Vista sensor. The sensor is built on Cepton’s patented micro-motion technology (MMT) platform. Vista LiDAR samples are available now for evaluation by Cepton’s automotive partners in their self-driving fleets. Automated volume production is planned to start in Q2, 2018.
CEO and Co-founder Dr. Pei obtained his Ph.D. in Electric Engineering from Stanford University. Prior to his degree he conducted technology development at KLA-Tencor, a semiconductor metrology company, and following his degree he founded AEP Technology, an advanced 3D optical instruments company.
Cepton leverages the NVIDIA DRIVE platform for advanced processing of LiDAR data. The AI supercomputer combines deep learning and sensor fusion to yield a 360-degree environment representing dynamic and static objects encompassing the vehicle.
“Automotive LiDAR like Cepton’s is a key sensing technology to enable self-driving efforts,” said Glenn Schuster, senior director, technical marketing, NVIDIA. “LiDAR generates a massive amount of data and needs the compute horsepower of an AI supercomputer to understand what is around the vehicle.”
