Arizona State University’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and global technology distributor Avnet jointly announced the winner of the second annual Arizona State University Innovation Open (ASUio), Hoolest Performance Technologies. The grand prize for the student venture competition was awarded $100,000 for development of a technology that optimizes brain function and controls the stress response of the body.
ASUio is the largest student venture competition in the southwestern US. It is open to university students regardless of discipline, attracting applicants from universities all over America. Participants compete through a series of rounds that serve to showcase how “entrepreneurship is tackling the world’s most challenging problems”.
It is integral that all entrants present ventures powered by innovative hardware technologies.
“All of the finalists exemplify the entrepreneurship, creativity and talent that is at the core of the ASU Innovation Open. This competition underscores how Avnet supports technology from idea to design to production,” said Avnet CEO, Bill Amelio in a statement about the event.
Other ASUio finalists included:
- W8X, developing connected fitness equipment for better strength training workouts.
- Hygiea, saving resources and boosting efficiency by leveraging analytic solutions to know how frequently trash cans fill.
- Bloomer Tech, collecting data about female heart health through biometic sensors in ordinary clothing.
- AirGarage, a global online marketplace for people to find, list, and book convenient parking from their tablet or phone.
