People using Internet of Things in City Downtown

Honeywell took a major step this week to strengthen its leadership in the management of connected infrastructure in cities by investing in India-based Trinity Mobility Private Limited. Best known as the provider of a leading Internet of Things (IoT) Smart Cities platform and associated software applications, Trinity now joins with Honeywell to offer services and solutions that make cities safer for residents while also reducing emissions and improving livability.

According to data from the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, by 2050 urban areas will contain 68% of the world’s population. Issues of security, traffic congestion, rising water, and increasing utility demands are driving the market for more investment into smart city technology. Cloud-based platforms and IoT systems like the Honeywell City Suite and Trinity’s platform offerings put actionable insights on these issues into the hands of city authorities. The end goals are to improve quality of life and foster ongoing economic development for the benefit of their residents.

“We look forward to expanding our relationship with Honeywell to offer customers a complete technology solution for the complex integrations that are needed to create a truly smart city,” said Trinity founder and CEO, M Ashok Kumar. “Our combined expertise and Smart Cities IoT platform provide tremendous connected opportunities for smart city solutions globally for both existing and emerging cities to meet their sustainability and productivity goals as well as create a more engaging citizen experience.”

Although the terms of the investment were not disclosed, it provides Honeywell with a pathway to full ownership of Trinity. This puts Honeywell in a position to partner even more with cities for the deployment of smart city systems or integrating new ones.
