Now that LEDs are the commonly used technology for street lighting upgrades, they’ have advanced to being broad platforms for other smart city innovations. Extensive partnership networks are forming among the leading suppliers in order to meet the large-scale demand for smart street light projects. Three companies in particular, Signify, Itron, and Telensa, are recognized as the leading companies developing smart street lighting, according to Navigant Research’s Leaderboard Report.
Titled “Navigant Research Leaderboard: Smart Street Lighting,” the report focuses on providers behind connected lighting controls, networking solutions, and the software that runs them. Behind the big three lies a strong list of other contenders like Rongwen, Echelon, and Current, powered by GE. Those companies within the report’s Challengers category bring innovative solutions into the market, but still lack a strong market presence.
“Leaders in this market have differentiated themselves from the competition through exceptional product features and portfolios, and are deploying large-scale connected lighting projects in multiple world regions,” said Ryan Citron, a senior research analyst with Navigant. “Top vendors are also recognizing the importance of integrating their smart street lighting solutions with the broader smart cities market.”
14 of the leading smart street light suppliers are examined in the report, rated on ten criteria. These are their product features and overall portfolio; staying power; product integration; their sales, marketing, and distribution; vision; product strategy; geographic reach; go-to-market strategy; existing partners; and market presence. In addition to this rating, every supplier is profiled to give other industry participants an objective assessment.
