“Who will be the fashion leaders of tomorrow?” Luminous Diamonds and the Fashion Scholarship Fund are partnering for the first time to inspire college students to pursue their creative passions by participating in the national fashion design competition they just launched. Luminous Diamonds, the new premiere fluorescent diamond jewelry brand, will award one Luminous Look Scholarship to the young creative designer judged to have the best concept for a garment reflecting the brand’s philosophy “Follow Your Inner Light”.
The Fashion Scholarship Fund, a fashion-oriented education and workforce development nonprofit, awards over $1 million in scholarships each year to students pursuing careers in all sectors of the fashion industry including design, merchandising, marketing analytics, and supply chain. Students at its 66 member colleges and universities are now invited to participate in the “Design Your Inner Light” competition. Their challenge is to design a garment inspired by the “Luminous Woman” – a person who symbolizes the inner light we all carry. Supermodel/entrepreneur and Luminous Diamonds advisor Coco Rocha is to serve as their muse.
“The FSF’s collaboration with Luminous Diamonds directly aligns with the mission that defines us — to provide our highly talented and diverse constituency with a myriad of professional development and mentorship experiences at all stages of their careers,” said Peter Arnold, Executive Director of the Fashion Scholarship Fund.
Luminous Diamonds’ rare fluorescent stones emit a stunning blue glow under ultraviolet light that symbolizes each individual’s inner light. Luminous Diamonds® embraces the wondrous characteristics of fluorescent diamonds and the pieces are designed with the shape of a free-form hexagon as a central motif.
Emerging fashion designers will have a chance to win a $10,000 grant to be applied to educational expenses. They will also have the look they design be fully realized and ultimately worn by Rocha.
FFashion designer Christian Siriano along with judges Celebrity Stylist, Mariel Haenn, Brand Consultant, Chrissy Rutherford, Executive Director of the FSF, Peter Arnold, President of Alrosa USA, Rebecca Foerster, and Coco Rocha, will mentor the students throughout the design process. The final creative concepts and garment sketches submitted will be reviewed by the panel of distinguished judges from the fashion industry.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how the students are inspired by Luminous Diamonds, in a way that allows them to be true to themselves as designers,” said Siriano, who is a long-time supporter of the Fashion Scholarship Fund
