Mediapost.com is giving developers something to be appy about with its annual application contest, the Appy Awards.
The Appy Awards, which honors exceptional mobile, social and web-based applications, encourages is open for entries in a range of categories, according to the website’s guidelines. To qualify, entries must have been launched or had a major version update within 12 months prior to submission and must be available for download to the contest jury within the judging period.
Finalists are selected by early May 2015, according to the contest guidelines. Entrants will go through two rounds of judging, the first of which consists of an initial review and judging of submissions, with three entries in each category selected as finalists. A panel of industry experts then decide which of the three entries in each category deserves to win.
The standard entry fee for the Appy Awards is $199 per entry, which should be submitted electronically via the Appy Awards website by April 10 at 5 p.m. to be considered for the 2015 Appy Awards. A short description of the app (300 words or fewer), along with any pertinent information about its creation, should be included with the submission.
Site visitors are able to preview some submissions. The Chemical Heritage Foundation submitted its app, ChemCrafter, to the annual contest, which aims to acknowledge creativity and excellence in app design, according to mediapost.com. ChemCrafter allows users to explore the “how’s and why’s” of chemical reactions with its virtual science lab platform.
Created in collaboration with the Emmy Award-winning digital agency Bluecadet, ChemCrafter offers “retro-style” custom illustrations. Though targeted toward the 12 to 15 age group, the app appeals to anyone looking to learn more about chemistry through gamification.
