Virtual Digital Assistants (VDA) is a new and upcoming technology expected to gain significant worldwide popularity, both among the general public business enterprises. It is expected that the number of enterprise VDA users will surpass one billion by 2025, according to Tractica, a marketing intelligence firm. This is a significant increase from 145.2 million unique active users worldwide in 2017.
Virtual Digital Assistants are automated software applications or platforms that use artificial intelligence to convert spoken language (natural language) into computer language. They enable computers to understand and respond to spoken commands. Enterprise VDAs interact with a specific set of systems using channels the organization typically controls such as phone/interactive voice response (IVR) and websites, as well as channels they do not control such as messaging applications like Facebook Messenger or smart assistants like Amazon’s Alexa.
Tractica predicts that this new technology will impact a range of business areas, mainly those responsible for aiding in customer service, marketing, e-commerce, sales, business applications, healthcare, foreign language tutoring, and tax filing and processing. VDAs are expected to make billions of lives easier as they touch so many people and corporations in so many areas of their lives.
Tractica’s Report, “Virtual Digital Assistants for Enterprise Applications” examines the market and technology issues surrounding enterprise VDAs and presents nine year forecasts for the future of this technology.
