EdTech startup Accelerate Learning’s CEO and president Vernon Johnson, along with founder Reid Whitaker, have been named finalists for the EdTech Leadership Award.  The Leadership Award is presented by The EdTech Awards 2018, one of the largest competition programs in education technology that recognizes and celebrates exceptional trendsetters, leaders, and innovators within the edtech field.

Whitaker is credited with creating Accelerate Learning’s award-winning STEMScopes digital science curriculum that was foundational to the start of the edtech company. Building upon this single product, Accelerate Learning now offers a variety of effective, affordable STEM programs and resources to preK-12 schools.

“Dr. Whitaker and I are honored to be recognized for our work to solve the STEM crisis by providing schools with the most effective, affordable programs and resources to create the next generation of STEM leaders. “By giving students opportunities to do what real-world STEM professionals do every day, teachers can get students engaged in STEM and inspire them to pursue careers in STEM fields,” stated Johnson in the press statement announcing the company’s selection as a finalist.

The Texas-based company, established with the support of Rice University, also had two of its’ products selected as finalists in the Cool Tool Award category.  They are STEMscopes PreK-12 digital STEM curriculum and STEMscopes DIVE-in Engineering curriculum.
