CytoSorbents Corp.’s Managing Director Christian Steiner expressed his appreciation for the company’s selection as one of twenty-one finalists in the “Great Tech Awards” recently announced by the joint initiative of the UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and the British Consulate General New York. CytoSorbents Corp. is a health tech startup based in New Jersey.
Companies with a presence in either New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania were eligible to participate in the competition and were able to apply in one of seven categories: education, finance, health, internet of things, lifestyle, media categories and Best of British. Cytosorbents was one of three companies selected in the health category.
“We are very grateful to have the opportunity and chance to potentially rescue many many people suffering from life-threatening critical illnesses with our product. We anticipate that the UKTI Great Tech Awards will give us the needed push to successfully do so in the UK,” Dr. Steiner explained. As stated on CytoSorbents web site, the immunotherapy company uses “blood purification to treat life-threatening illnesses. Its purification technology is based on biocompatible, highly porous polymer beads that can actively remove toxic substances from blood and other bodily fluids by pore capture and surface adsorption.”
UKTI seeks to identify US based tech companies that may desire to enter the UK or expand their UK based operations. The Great Tech Awards winners will be sent to the UK for a custom business development tour. It will “include a roundtrip flight to London, hotel accommodation, access to influential people and resources…and attendance at a UK trade show.”
The category finalists are: for education, Admittedly, Noodle and Schell Games; for finance, EquiMetrics, InvestCloud, and SeedInvest; for health, Cytosorbents, Kinsa and Menssana Research; for Internet of Things, Critical Mention, Electric Objects and Research Frontiers; for lifestyle, Cater2.me, SmartLine and TodayTix; and for media, Contently, SeamlessDocs and TouchCast. A seventh category, Best of British, also has three finalists: Conversocial, Equivital and ustwo.
Startups and early stage companies continually seek opportunities to further their business model. Dr. Steiner explains why this particular award competition made sense for their company to participate. “Initiatives which highlight and encourage entrepreneurship are so important because they catalyze progress. The Great Tech Awards we expect will inject valuable energy into our efforts to grow and develop our business at a very ambitious but sustainable speed.”
