Tokyo-based Yamaha Motor’s California-headquartered investment arm, Yamaha Motor Ventures and Laboratory Silicon Valley (YMVSV), has growing interest in supporting the healthcare field through technological solutions and strategic business development. The investment group most recently chose Australian-based tech company loop+, to invest AUD $3 million and help the company through the early stages of fundraising, as well as enable them to continue developing their technology.
Headquartered in Silicon Valley, YMVSV offers funding and other business development resources to early stage startups in the fields of mobility, sustainability, robotics, health and wellness, and more. Loop+ works in the healthcare industry, offering individuals in wheelchairs and their caretakers the ability to track their actions and daily behaviors on a consistent basis to determine how to best improve their health.
The loop+ platform features a sensor mat that is attached to the wheel chair and continuously monitors pressure, position, and the environmental conditions of the user throughout the day, delivering all the information to the loop+ app. Through the app and collaborative care dashboard that connects regional nurses to specialists in the city, users can take better control of their health and determine which actions increase the efficacy and efficiency of care.
“Yamaha Motor is actively supporting innovation in the health tech sector to help bring technology to the market to address challenges and leverage opportunities for better patient care. loop+ is one such company, taking a preventative health approach to help avoid suffering and lower costs associated with prevalent pressure-related conditions for wheelchair users,” said George Kellerman, CEO & Managing Director of YMVSV.
