Meet Wristify, a developing thermoelectric bracelet built to adjust a person’s perception of a room’s temperature by sending hot or cold pulses to the wrist. Created by embr labs, a startup founded by four MIT students, Wristify provides personalized thermal relief to the user, eliminates the hassle of differing body temperatures in one room.
“Thermal is deeply personal,†says Sam Shames, co-founder of Embr Labs. “In any given environment, we all have a different idea of what comfortable is.â€
What makes Wristify stand out is its precision when compared competing thermal products (like battery-heated gloves) or icepacks. While users of other separate heating or cooling products have no control over exactly how warm or cold they become,
Wristify’s setting allow users to set his or her own personal thermal point (whether cooling or heating) on one device.
The creators and developers have already received recognition winning first prize at MIT’s MADMEC competition and the latest Proto Labs Cool Idea! Award, but the concept of Wristify goes beyond a cool tech innovation. Developers aim to advance Wrisitify from a personal comfort device to an energy efficiency solution. By heating and cooling individuals, Wristify has the potential to reduce the energy consumption of heating and cooling homes and buildings.
“The market demand for wearable devices is growing,†says Proto Labs founder Larry Lukis. “Wristify fits well into this niche and should successfully ride the wearable device trend. I see Wristify taking a prominent place next to another wearable bracelet that’s utilitarian — the Fitbit.â€
Wristify is expected to be on the market in the next year, but retail price has yet to be determined. To learn more on the development of Wristify, you can visit their website and stay updated by joining their mailing list.
