As part of Sony Electronic’s Global Social Justice Fund, the company has committed $1 million in grants to local non-profit organizations serving underrepresented and underserved communities. Called “CREATIVE ACTION”, the initiative is meant to assist non-profits by providing additional funding that bolsters their local efforts.
Sony Electronics recognizes that a large percentage of the over one million non-profit service organizations have budgets below $500,000, making fundraising and marketing difficult in their goal to fully engage with their local communities. While there are platforms available to assist them, these smaller non-profits have a range of other hurdles that pose challenges due to a lack of resources.
“Sony’s main purpose is to ‘Fill the world with emotion, through the power of creativity and technology,'” said Neal Manowitz, President and COO of Sony Electronics Inc. “CREATE ACTION is designed to support this purpose. It is a program that summons the power of Sony – including funding, product, creative resources and accessibility – to expand the impact and influence of local organizations that are creating a tremendous positive impact in their community.”
Sony will select 10 organizations to receive the CREATE ACTION grants for the efforts in underrepresented and underserved communities. Each month one grant recipient will be announced from June 2021 through March 2022.
Grant winners will receive a $50,000 cash grant (by check) and $50,000 in Sony Electronics products, plus support services that includes a custom short film promoting the organization’s mission and efforts. In addition to the film, the organizations will have opportunities to collaborate with Sony Electronics and its extended network of corporate partners.
Applications are now being accepted through March 29th, 2022. Each application will remain in consideration throughout the entirety of the program. Eligibility includes: 501(c) (3) non-profits with less than $500k annual operating revenue for 2019 and 2020. Their key programs should reflect their efforts in underrepresented, underserved communities that include, but not be limited to: STEAM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics), Academic Enrichment, Workforce Development, and Community and Civic Engagement.
