Sony announced on July 17th a continuation of their Sony Research Award Program for a second year, with applications open until September 15th. The program provides American and Canadian universities, in collaboration with Sony’s research division, funding for innovative technological research projects within the two submission categories of Focused Research Awards and Faculty Innovation Awards.
Sony works with technology across professional, medical, and personal markets with innovative ideas since its founding in 1946. Through the Award Program, Sony helps drive the development of advanced research concepts, leading to breakthrough technologies that influence future markets and industries.
The Focused Research Award category explores Egocentric Motion Capture Systems, Image-Based Photo-Realistic Rendering, Novel Robotic Actuators, and Next Generation Dialogue Management Systems. Interested universities collaborate with Sony’s in-house research team with a one year award of up to USD $150,000 to explore the developing research in one of these fields.
The Faculty Innovation Award category focuses on submissions that align with Sony’s general research interests, using the partnership to build on existing research. Research interests include Communication, Autonomous Driving, Virtual Reality, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence with awards of up to USD $100,000.
