Dedrone is one of 200 groundbreaking inventions recognized by TIME for their impact on people’s lives

Hand in hand with innovation today are concerns as to its true value or if it poses a potential threat. The war in Ukraine unfortunately has shown the important role that drones can have in warfare or their impact when used with harmful intent. Virginia-based airspace security company Dedrone just won TIME’s Best Inventions of 2023 in AI, receiving honors for its counter-drone security platform and being an innovation that will change lives around the world.

DedroneCityWide currently counters drone threats in over 50 U.S. cities, protecting 50% of the population, including the three largest cities: New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago. The company’s deployed airspace security infrastructure monitors multiple drones and geographical areas at once. It uses  a streamlined alerting system that triggers a notification, providing drone data as well as the pilot’s location at the moment an alert zone is breached.

“Drone security is no longer nice-to-have; it’s something that every city around the world needs to keep citizens safe. This TIME Best Inventions award builds on our CNBC Disruptor 50 win earlier this year and is yet another acknowledgement of the serious problem that Dedrone is solving on a global scale,” said Aaditya Devarakonda, CEO of Dedrone. “We are leveraging AI/ML to enable the good drones to fly to while protecting against the malicious ones.”b

One can only be impressed, as were TIME’s judges, with the sophistication of Dedrone’s software solution. DedroneTracker.AI, a dual-use command and control airspace security platform by using AI models, performs true sensor fusion to accurately monitor a drone’s flight path and behavior. Its capabilities include a database having more than 430 million drone detections’ worth of information and over 15 million images.

Dedrone technology has been implemented across 30 countries and is used by five of the G-7 nation governments; 190 critical infrastructure sites; 30 airports; 60+ stadiums; 15+ US federal entities and 20+ non-US governments. The company actively provides counterdrone solutions for some of the most high-profile events around the world, working closely with over 120 public safety agencies globally.

As one of TIME’S Best Inventions of 2023 in AI, Dedrone’s technology gains well-deserved recognition. This is best seen on the map of globally reported drone incidents which reflects the scale of drone use and the need for security.
