Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 is impacting the emergence of new GreenTech innovations
Time magazine’s just-released list of America’s Top GreenTech Companies 2024 shows the diversity of innovations that are tackling climate change and energy needs. The annual list reveals new business models that are driving innovation in the areas of greenhouse-gas emissions, unsustainable materials, and the use of nonrenewable natural resources.
To achieve the final list of 250 of America’s top sustainability-focused companies, TIME and Statista evaluated candidates based on “their positive environmental impact, financial strength, and innovation”. This included the value of the company’s intellectual property portfolio, revenue, and funding while assessing environmental data specifically related to their industry.
TIME noted that companies “at the upper reaches of green tech” are tied to government investment via the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. As a result, the Greentech industry is comprised of a range of solutions addressing the broad environmental impact from food to heavy industry, while developing renewable power from solar to fusion.
cove.tool is in the top ten companies in the “Built Environment” category. The company is setting a new standard in sustainability consulting. They are merging building science expertise with advanced analytical software and AI innovations. This innovation will equip building industry professionals with the data that facilitates decision making on projects and drive decarbonization efforts forward.

Six of the top ten companies in the green technology sector are based in California. Three of the ten are in the Circular Economy category and the remaining seven are in separate categories in the award list.
The Circular Economy is a production approach where an effort is made to reuse materials and parts in the production of new products, resulting in the creation of the least amount of waste.
The three Circular Economy companies in the top 10 are:
Steamline Innovations, develops and commercializes innovative technologies that enable customers to achieve environmental performance goals. The company was co-founded in 2016 by David Sisk and Jane Brown.
Brimstone has created a deeply decarbonized process is a breakthrough in cement production, making industry-standard Portland cement with carbon-free calcium silicate rock instead of limestone. The company was co-founded in 2019 at Caltech, by Cody Finke and Hugo Leandri.
Ascend Elements is revolutionizing the EV battery materials industry with an ultra-efficient, patented technology to make new, engineered battery materials from recycled Lithium-ion batteries and production scrap. The company was co-founded in 2015 by Diran Apelian, Eric Gratz and Yan Wang.
The list of companies included in Time’s America’s Top GreenTech Companies 2024 reflectsthe diversity of innovation in the United States to address climate change and accelerate the clean energy transition underway to have a greener future.
