In their ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion in their workplace, Connecticut based Synchrony’s CEO and President Margaret Keane held the 4th annual Diversity Symposium for its employees. The Symposium celebrates diversity and inclusion in the workplace
The company’s ongoing efforts have not gone unnoticed as Working Mother Media’s division Diversity Best Practices (DBP) recognized them among 31 other organizations as a leader in Diversity and Inclusion, with a score of 81% or higher.
The symposiums work with employees at every level of the company and in every department. The gatherings break down any internal silos, so individuality can be celebrated while collaboration is fostered. They also help the local community as well through their Diversity Network Community Service Events, which support Communities in Schools, Project Homeless Connect, and Britepaths.
DBP’s Inclusion Index gathers together data on inclusion and then ranks companies by asking them for data in a number of related areas. It covers transparency in sharing demographic data about their workforce, their practices in building an inclusive culture, and their adherence to inclusion and diversity in retention, recruitment, and advancement from under-represented groups.
“Synchrony empowers employees to be their authentic self. If we can leverage everyone’s individuality – that’s when we all work together better,” said Marissa Lara, SVP and Chief Diversity & Corporate Responsibility Officer in a press statement. “Diversity is the key to an innovative work environment for our employees, and to succeed in business, so we are engaging our employees every day to learn, be open minded, and collaborate. The power of diversity and inclusion is one of our strongest unifying strengths.”
