Leslie short book cover

Titled “Expand Beyond Your Current Culture: Diversity and Inclusion for CEOs and Leadership,” Leslie Short’s recently released book takes a keen eye to what companies need to do in order to gain meaningful results from the D&I initiatives.

Short is CEO of The Cavu Group, a diversity consultancy that follows on her success as former COO and Corporate Operations Strategist for ABC’s Shark Tank star Daymond John and his companies. She also has been honored by Ebony magazine as an Outstanding Woman in Marketing and Communications and the New York Business Journal as a Woman of Influence.

In her book Short cites that half of all workers in underrepresented groups still experience bias every day at work.  She offers timely advice to business leaders on how “to ensure that all employees have opportunities to express who they are and are comfortable doing so”.  She wants leaders to think differently about D&I when implementing and running their programs so that a “sustainable, diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace” can be achieved.

Readers are also introduced to a fresh and outside perspective about cultural differences and unconscious bias.  Short offers ways to have meaningful dialogs among individuals in an organization.  She specifically addresses how business leaders can have a great impact on company culture that is inclusive and offers opportunities to those underrepresented.

Once clarity about company culture is achieved, everyone in an organization from top to bottom can contribute to changing the culture embracing authenticity and accountability.  Those are two key factors she believes catalyzes constructive change in a business’ culture.
