Japanese Startup UniFa has taken the one million dollar first prize at the 2017 Startup World Cup.
The contest, having awards funded by Fenox Venture Capital, had 15 regional pitch competitions across the globe, the winners of which were invited to participate in the Startup World Cup. The contest serves as a bridge for startup ecosystems all over the world, while encouraging entrepreneurs to go for the gold in the competition.
Marquee names in entrepreneurship included Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Apple’s former Chief Evangelist Guy Kawasaki discussing “The Top ten Mistakes of Entrepreneurs”, ABC Shark Tank investor Daymond John talking about “The Power of Broke”, and Steve Wozniak, Apple’s co-founder speaking on “The Untold Stories of Apple”.
UniFa offers a method for parents to better track the health of their children through IoT; smart beds, thermometers, and a personal robot known as Meebo which track a young child’s development, both physically and mentally.
Second place at the event was taken by the United Kingdom’s Open Bionics, offering 3D printing for robotic arms, while an Indonesian on-demand laundry service, Ahlijasa, placed third.
Wistron Corporation and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe partnered to host the event.
