NTT Group and Dell Technologies are expanding their partnership to focus on smart city initiatives. Their first smart city proof of concept via their partnership will be with the City of Las Vegas in Nevada, contributing to the city’s digital transformation.

NTT Group plans to address a common challenge facing US cities.  That is the sizeable expense of adapting infrastructure and operating models that are able to analyze and store incoming multimedia data.  If addressed, cities will be able to improve public safety, but it will require the full use of next-generation sensors, ultra-high definition cameras and other emerging innovative technologies. Beneficiaries of this initiative include the local police and fire agencies who then can proactively alert public safety stakeholders and first responders to emergencies.

“The Innovation District in downtown Las Vegas was designed to be a proving ground for new technologies, and this latest interest by NTT Group and Dell Technologies will continue our efforts to become a smart and connected community,” said Michael Lee Sherwood, Director of Information Technologies, City of Las Vegas.

NTT Group’s Cognitive Foundation will work with Dell Technology’s micro data centers to focus on public gathering areas and event venues. It is a secure, distributed platform that will create and deploy micro data centers in proximity to sensors around a city. The collaboration of the two technology providers will result in more effective and efficient rapid response services.

Once established the City will be able to proactively analyze data to improve safety. The scalable infrastructure allows the city to take advantage of machine learning that can improve response times for public safety incidents.  Following a successful proof of concept in the City of Las Vegas, the NTT Group will introduce additional similar initiatives in other U.S. cities.
