The Stillman School of Business Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Seton Hall University will be hosting its ninth annual Entrepreneur Hall of Fame Induction Dinner on October 23, 2014. Louis Miu, owner and president of Miu & Co, and Huichen Xu, owner and president of Meichen Group, will be honored.

People do not often think of accountants as entrepreneurs. Louis Miu immigrated from Hong Kong when he was 19 and funded his education at Seton Hall by working 32 hours each weekend as a restaurant waiter in Brooklyn. After graduation, Miu started his own accounting firm in New York’s China Town in 1980. In its early years, Miu & Co.’s clients were mainly garment contractors and restaurants. Today, Miu & Co.’s clients include hotels, supermarkets, food distributors, medical offices, non-profits, retailers, and wholesalers. Miu is an active alumnus, and serves on the President’s Advisory Council. In addition, Miu is a prominent member of the Chinatown business community, and has served on the Board of the Lower East Side Tenement Museum.

Huichen Xu is a graduate of the Stillman School’s MBA program in Shanghai, China, and has been an entrepreneur for more than 20 years. His company was founded in 1993 under the name Heavylong Group, but has recently reorganized and changed its name to Meichen Group. Meichen Group’s businesses include research and development of engineering, metallurgy, and coal machinery, international trade, real estate development, and international education. The company is headquartered in Anshan, in northeastern China. It makes more than 60 kinds of products, which are widely used in the metallurgy, mines, ports, petroleum, chemical, power and coal mining industries. Meichen Group owns more than 30 patent technologies and two companies located in the US, Phillips Machine Service, Inc. and Terraquip Construction Products, Inc.

According to Susan Scherriek, the Director for the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Seton Hall, “The Entrepreneur Hall of Fame Dinner celebrates Seton Hall’s vibrant entrepreneurial spirit and the achievements of our most successful entrepreneurs. Plus, it’s a really fun evening!” The dinner which attracts over 200 people, most of whom are Seton Hall University alumni, faculty, students and invited guests, continues to grow each year.
