Public Spend Forum which is a market intelligence platform and community for public sector buyers and suppliers is collaborating with the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office to launch a new lab that showcases new and disruptive approaches and technologies in government called the Public Procurement Technology and Innovation Labs. The Innovation Labs will serve to connect emerging and established procurement technology firms, experts, and entrepreneurs with government agencies when it launches on June 6th, 2018.  The Shatter Fund which invests capital in high potential disruptive technology and the government focused accelerator program Dcode are partners in this endeavor.

With easier-to-implement and lower-cost technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and cloud-based solutions being embraced, significant improvements in the government procurement process are now very much within reach, something not ever experienced or seen before. The establishment of the Labs marks a commitment to the development of innovative technologies with the potential to disrupt procurement processes in the existing procurement ecosystem.

The Innovation Labs will focus on three key areas: Tech Demo Days, the Accelerator for ProTech Suppliers run by Dcode, and Tech Innovation Workshops.

“Los Angeles, a city known for innovation and entrepreneurship, is the perfect home for the inaugural ProTech Innovation Labs—a gathering rethinking the procurement ecosystem,” said the Chief Procurement Officer for the City of Los Angeles, Michael Owh. “Leveraging innovative and emerging technologies while rethinking old processes is an important part of how we protect taxpayer dollars and create a more inclusive economy”.
