The Women Entrepreneurs NYC initiative (WE.NYC) assists female entrepreneurs in building and strengthening their own businesses. The government-sponsored program provides tailored business services such as mentorship, networking events, and business courses.
“There are almost 200,000 women entrepreneurs in NYC and women contribute approximately $50 Billion dollars annually in revenue,” according to a research report commissioned by the initiative. However, “…according to our research, men own 1.5 times the number of businesses, have 3.5 times the number of employees, and generate 4.5 times the amount of revenue.”
Through these findings, the initiative tailors its programs, helping close the gender gap in Manhattan business ownership. Based out of the New York City Department of Small Business Services, this initiative is just one piece of the Mayor’s plan to build jobs and businesses across the greater Manhattan area.
With Fortune naming NYC as the, “Best City in the World for Women Entrepreneurs”, the initiative’s success is evident. WE NYC’s services are free, available across all five boroughs of Manhattan, and even have multiple languages to ensure everyone can benefit.
