Capital raising platform Netcapital announced on October 6th their newly established strategic partnership with Techstars that will open up opportunities for any investor to invest alongside Techstars in their portfolio of companies. Techstars manages a worldwide network of entrepreneurs who receive assistance in building their ventures.
To date Techstars’ portfolio has over 1,000 companies that have raised more than $3.8 billion in capital. The partnership that has the support of David Cohen, David Brown, and the Techstars team will enable individuals to access value created by tech companies in a private market before initial public offerings. Approximately 90% of Techstars’ portfolio companies have either been acquired or are still active.
The newly formed partnership is a firm step towards online security offerings for private companies. Techstars anticipates initiating this through the placement of a few select Techstars companies and then expanding to include the entire portfolio. Using the Netcapital platform, shares can be purchased online in just a few clicks from a list of available offerings in amounts from $99 to $107,000.
Brown, the co-CEO of Techstars, is joining Netcapital’s board as part of this partnership. He spoke about Techstars’ thoughts on the partnership in a press release, saying that, “We view Netcapital as a paradigm shift in the dynamics of the capital markets and the ways that startups connect with consumers. This means that anyone can now invest in our companies right along with us.”
