Biotech leader and serial entrepreneur Michael Gilman, Ph.D., has been named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Arrakis Therapeutics.

Gilman held executive roles at ARIAD Pharmaceuticals and Biogen, and was the founding CEO of both Stromedix and Padlock Therapeutics before taking this new position.

The company was founded by Russell Petter, Ph.D., Henri Termeer, Raj parekh, Ph.D., and Alan Wants, Ph.D., with a focus on the creation of a discovery platform made to identify small-molecule drugs to fight disease-causing RNA, and treat diseases that current medicines do not address.

Recently, the company has completed a Series A financing worth $38 million in order to further realize these goals. “Our substantial intellectual property, financial resources, and the extensive experience of our team in discovering and developing novel drugs will enable us to build a pipeline of new small-molecule therapeutics for patients not helped by today’s medicines,” said Dr. Gilman.
