On Tuesday, December 12th Mayor Baraka joined with other Newark leaders in the opening ceremony of Barcade, a combination bar, restaurant, and video arcade offering classic video and pinball games combined with American craft beer from local breweries. The other dignitaries at the ceremony included: Audible.com Founder and CEO Don Katz , Barcade owner Paul Kermizian and The Fidelco Group Chairman Marc E. Berson who helped cut the ribbon at the Broad Street location in downtown Newark.
The restaurant joins other recent businesses, both corporate and small, who are moving into Newark, contributing to a revitalization of New Jersey’s largest city. It is well-situated, just moments from NJ Transit’s Broad Street station and nearby Rutgers Business School and Audible’s Newark headquarters.
Barcade sees a core part of its customer base coming from the growing Washington Park business and education community. The future development of the Newark Bears-Eagles Riverfront Stadium site will be a big boost upon completion.
Barcade is a well-recognized brand having recognized as one of the best bars in America by Esquire Magazine in 2008, the best bar in New York City for its Brooklyn location in 2013, and best craft beer bar in Philadelphia by the TV show Brew Dogs in 2013.
