In a direct appeal to CEOs My True Self, PLLC / Nutritionist and author Gigi Carter hopes to improve employee health, while also saving the planet. She challenges CEOs to engage their workplace community to innovatively implement the solutions she offers in her latest book The Plant-Based Workplace: Add Profits, Engage Employees and Save the PlanetShe also offers to donate 50% of royalty profits to charity on any books purchased for employees.

In the book Carter presents her plant-based food environment philosophy. She explains the science of chronic diseases and the environmental impact of food choices. She offers a change model with step by step directions and guidelines for her philosophy to be implemented by employees in the workplace, presenting a business case for its adoption. The end goal is a healthier workforce and a lighter carbon footprint.

The author offers these precise steps to implement her challenge:

  • CEOs commit to reading or listening to the audiobook.
  • CEOs pose to their workforce the question: “Would you be interested in a solution that would both improve the health of our coworkers and reduce our environmental footprint?”
  • Upon receiving a “yes”, they then follow with the question: “Would you be interested in being a part of a group that will read The Plant-Based Workplace and come up with a recommendation that could work for our company?”

Carter bases her approach on the observation that companies have often been on the forefront of social and policy changes. She cites companies that inaugurated benefits for same-sex partners in advance of gay marriage being legalized.

“I’m hoping businesses can be the driving force for making a dramatic shift to improving both human and planetary health with this one solution,” Carter said.
