Hermeus has reached a $1 billion post-money valuation after closing a $350 million Series C round, giving the defense aviation startup fresh capital to accelerate development of high-Mach unmanned aircraft for national security missions.
Founded in 2018 by AJ Piplica and a team of former engineers from SpaceX, Blue Origin, and NASA, Hermeus’ mission is to develop hypersonic aircraft that have speeds greater than Mach 5. Its autonomous, high-speed aircraft are for defense and commercial applications
The round was led by Khosla Ventures and included continued backing from Canaan Partners, Founders Fund, RTX Ventures, Bling Capital, and In-Q-Tel. Additional new investors include Cox Enterprises, Socium Ventures, Destiny Tech100, Georgia Tech Foundation, and others.
Hermeus’ financing includes $200 million in equity and $150 million in debt capital, bringing its total capital raised to more than $500 million.
In announcing the Series C, Hermeus said it is now scaling toward a fleet of three F-16-scale aircraft, working toward Mach 3 performance and beginning to integrate customer payloads.
That is significant because high-speed unmanned systems could offer defense agencies new options for reconnaissance, strike support, and time-sensitive missions where speed changes both reach and survivability.
Hermeus funding marks a major milestone in defense aviation
The latest raise comes as Hermeus pushes to become a leading builder of high-speed autonomous aircraft for the U.S. military and allied defense customers.
The company said the new capital will help it move from rapid prototyping to more mission-ready aircraft development, while also scaling manufacturing capacity and integrating customer payloads.

Hermeus describes Quarterhorse Mk 2.1 as an F-16-scale remotely piloted aircraft and says the next step is supersonic flight.
Investors are backing execution as much as ambition. Hermeus has already shown it can move aircraft from design to test in a compressed cycle. The next challenge will be to provide repeatable performance and readiness as systems become more complex.
