A Pioneer in Experiment-driven Health and Performance Optimization

How many of us have looked at Navy Seals and wondered about the conditioning that enabled them to endure such feats of endurance? Founder and CEO Andrew Herr of Fount worked for years to know how they did it, as well as find a way for others to benefit from his research.

“At Fount, we’ve taken our expertise in optimizing outcomes for the highest performers in the toughest environments on Earth and built tools that can help anyone achieve their health and performance goals,” said Herr.

His health startup now offers tailored health and performance optimization to the public based on his work with professional athletes and Navy SEALs.  His flagship offering Fount Pro utilizes individualized, n=1 experimentation in conjunction with one-on-one coaching from former military special operators, Olympic sports scientists, and sleep researchers.

Clients are able to optimize their “energy, focus, mood, sleep, gut health, longevity, fertility and body composition”.  Executives, entrepreneurs and new parents are targeted segments who would benefit the most from the Fount Pro program. Packy McCormick, CEO of Not Boring Capital and investor in Fount, is an early testimonial client.

“I’ve been on the Fount Pro program for about a year and a half, and it’s been a complete game-changer,” said McCormick. “They discovered and fixed my anemia; got my B-12, omega-3, testosterone, and fasting blood sugar in line; and gave me my energy back.”

Fount’s recently closed $12M Series A round will build on its successful product launch of FlyKitt in 2020—that Herr considers the first true solution to jet lag. The health startup’s patented technology effectively reduces jetlag for over 90% of its users during their global travel—showing only minimal or no jet lag.

FlyKitt is the result of Herr’s research that yielded scientific insights into the role of inflammation in jet lag.  Having had success with FlyKitt’s product launch and gaining investor backing, Fount scheduled its next product launch for this year.  It will address sleep and women’s health—with early results showing a 90% reduction in symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

To gain investor support Fount showed an ambitious business model that combined its proprietary data sets with world-class AI expertise, delivering uniquely effective and scalable products. Amity Ventures founded in 2017 by CJ Reim and Patrick Yang led the funding round.  Other round participants supporting the health and performance startup included Los Angeles Dodgers-associated Elysian Park Ventures, Not Boring Capital, Allen & Co, Champion Hill Ventures, and angel investors aligned with Fount’s mission.

“Many companies, protocols, or products offer point solutions delivering the latest diet, sensor, meditation practice, or fitness routine,” said Reim. “Fount sits on top of all of these point solutions delivering a personalized, experiment-driven approach to implementing the health and performance interventions that work for you. We invested in Fount because they are the only company to bring together the health insights, data, and AI expertise required to scale this to millions of people.”
