Cara Care, a digital health company working to help patients with gastrointestinal health issues, offers a holistic approach to self-care through their innovative mobile companion app. The platform has helped over 400,000 people in the U.S. and Germany manage their symptoms, with further expansion made possible by a recent Series A round of funding that totaled $7 million.
Gastrointestinal diseases often cause a lifetime of physical and mental distress for individuals, leaving them to cope with challenges, social stigma, and loss of productivity with little outside help. By employing certified nutritionists and providing tools such as medication management, and dietary and mental health interventions, Cara Care ensures patients get the emotional and medical support they need.
Led by Johnson & Johnson Innovation, as well as Asabys Partners, the round of funding supporting digital health solutions allows Cara Care to conduct additional scientific research on digestive diseases, symptom triggers, and flare up causes. The company plans to partner with pharmaceutical companies, diagnostic laboratories, and food manufacturing companies to further turn the app into a comprehensive tool for patients who now benefit greatly from digitally provided health services.
“We believe mobile software can have a significant therapeutic effect on these patients, as GI diseases are highly influenced by factors such as diet, stress, mental health and physical activity,” said André Sommer, M.D at Cara Care in a recent press statement. “By identifying individual triggers for symptoms and flares, we can tailor interventions to reduce symptoms and improve the patient’s quality of life. Based on the health and lifestyle data, it is further possible to optimize medication intake, increase adherence and match the right therapy with the right patient.”
