ABI Research released on August 10th their revenue forecast for the enterprise wearable device market, projecting a jump from US$10.6 billion in 2017 to over US$60 billion by 2022. The forecast includes devices like wearable scanners, smart glasses, and smartwatches, and while this increase is part of a growing focus on worker productivity via hands-free information access and improved worker communication, it also raises concerns about data security and enterprise mobility management (EMM).
Today’s EMM platforms use encryption, authentication protocols, and remote control for wiping of data in case of theft or loss, and are offered by companies like VMware, SOTI, Hipaax, Augmate, and 42Gears. Companies selecting an EMM solution need to consider security risks and the size of the network needed to support all employees using EMM technology.
Stephanie Lawrence, a research analyst at ABI Research, spoke about the importance of EMM in a press release, saying that, “EMM solutions provide several layers of security to the devices, applications, and data to ensure that if the device is lost, stolen, or hacked, sensitive company and customer information is not put at risk. Without a strong EMM in place, a company risks data being hacked or accessed via an unsecure, lost, or stolen device, which can have potentially catastrophic results for both the company and the consumer.”
Offering forecasts, consulting services, and research throughout the technology market, ABI Research helps business leaders in the industry make informed decisions about their technology. This latest report, titled “Enterprise Mobility Management Services for Wearables” focuses on EMM solutions for wearable technology, how it works, key players in the market, and what should be done to improve the EMM solutions available today.
