Embark Veterinary Inc. announced on July 18th an expansion to their genetic testing suite for veterinarians, breeders, and pet owners thanks to raising $4.5 million in new funding. This new funding brings Embark’s total funding to $6.5 million, and is led by ThirdKind, Freestyle, and Founder Collective, with SV Angel, Anne Wojcicki, and a new fund from Bill Maris’ known as Section 32 participating.

Embark now enters its second year in operation, offering the globe’s most advanced DNA test for canines, tracking over 200,000 genetic markers that provide an overview of heritable traits, genetic disease risks, and ancestry analysis. Embark is partnered with the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, and provides customers the information to plan for their dog’s future with personalized care.

Embark’s CEO and Founder, Ryan Boyko, talked about the company’s vision in a press release, saying that, “…Ultimately we are ending preventable disease in dogs. This additional funding enables us to expand the research to accomplish that goal. We’re looking forward to developing new features that consumers and breeders need to make genetic information useful, fun, and engaging in their everyday lives.”

Through the funding, more tools are being provided to breeders, enabling them to leverage Embark’s genetic advances to breed healthier dogs. In addition to the funding, Embark also announced a relocation of their headquarters to the Boston area, known for both biological technology and digital health innovation.
