This year’s Code AutoMobility LA hackathon came to a close with the announcement of the winners by AutoMobility LA and the Los Angeles Auto Show organizers. This year’s challenge for coders was to develop innovative technology solutions that will make travel safer and smarter, in addition to enabling seamless in-car payments. The grand prize of $40,000 was awarded to Tribal Scale, Pit Stop came in second and received $30,000, and $15,000 was awarded to EVHub for placing third in the contest.
Tribal Scale presented an in-car e-commerce platform driven by AI that let consumers purchase items for curbside pickup directly from their vehicle, cutting out the need for parking. Pit Stop’s product is a predictive maintenance solution with machine learning aimed at ride-share drivers. EVHub came up with a method for improving a consumer’s EV charger experience with a monthly membership plan charging a single rate and eliminating the need for more than one app.
Every solution in the contest made use of key insights as well as application-programming interfaces (APIs) provided by the City of Los Angeles, GM, and Visa. Although only three solutions became finalists, others showcased great ideas like parking assistants, vehicular tracking systems, predictive maintenance, and real time in-vehicle commerce systems.
“There is no singular solution to creating a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion, and the pitches presented at this year’s coding challenge highlight the opportunity to bring this vision to life,” said General Motors’ Chief Data and Analytics Officer, Charles Thomas. “The caliber of talent was exceptional, and we were impressed with the participants’ ability to develop data driven solutions that would positively impact the connected vehicle experience.”
