The top three finalists of the automotive 2017 Hackathon Competition sponsored by Honda Innovations were announced on November 30th by the Los Angeles Auto Show and AutoMobility LATM. Tribal Scale, Team Wing, and EPAM Systems took home $7,500 for first place, $2,500 for second, and $1,000 for third place, respectively. .

Honda Innovation, as sponsor, gave a 2018 Honda Odyssey to 100 developers for 24 hours on November 27-28 to tackle mobility issues that dynamic cities face when hosting large, international events. The City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Department of Transportation and Honda Innovations also provided data, APIs and software for the event.

The three top solutions addressed three distinct areas, with Tribal Scale presenting a predictive driver assistance platform that anticipates crashes while serving to alert emergency responders, Team Wing addressing public transportation and parking to alleviate congestion, and EPAM Systems offering an in-vehicle intelligent assistant.

AutoMobility LA advisory board member and founder of Ellis & Associates John Ellis talked about their first hosted Hackathon in a related press release, saying that, “We couldn’t be happier with the turnout and quality of participants at this year’s AutoMobility LA Hackathon competition. This talented group of tech change-makers demonstrated an exceptional ability to understand the transportation challenges facing modern cities and how those challenges could be addressed with the creative application of technology.”

The Automobility LA conference that ran from November 27th through the 30th brought together automakers, tech executives, disruptors, entrepreneurs, investors, designers, developers, dealers, government officials and other industry professionals to learn, connect and make deals with one another. A new show format gave professionals the opportunity to participate in high level discussions, witness global product unveilings and network within a diverse ecosystem.
