BioNJ, the trade association for New Jersey’s life science industries recently published “Fueling Entrepreneurship: Advancing Innovation and the Life Sciences Ecosystem.” The white paper discusses opportunities in entrepreneurship and is intended for company stakeholders, academics, and future entrepreneurs. The paper is one part of a statewide attempt to encourage long-term growth and success in life sciences entrepreneurship and BioNovation, New Jersey’s life sciences innovation cluster.
New Jersey and its environs are home to a large of amount of activity in life sciences. This ranges from pharmaceutical companies and institutions of higher learning to acting as service providers and entrepreneurs. The recently released white paper aims to be “informative and provocative,” according to Debbie Hart, CEO and President of BioNJ. It’s an effort to motivate residents “to get involved in support of entrepreneurship in New Jersey.”
The paper also included a survey. The findings provide suggestions to hopeful entrepreneurs, and advice on creating a friendly environment for startup founders including how to raise capital, and build a successful founding team. A discussion of state infrastructure, policy and communications techniques in relation to entrepreneurship in New Jersey is also highlighted. Supporting entrepreneurial effort is a fundamental key to “New Jersey’s continued success,” said Thomas Richardson, Ph.D. and BioNJ Vice President of Strategic Initiatives. Hart echoed his statements, adding that “as a community, we should do all we can to support entrepreneurship.”
“Fueling Entrepreneurship” is part of a larger initiative launched by the BioNJ Entrepreneurship Advisory Committee. The group’s aim is create a more favorable environment for life sciences entrepreneurs. Hart says these founders “innovate, take calculated risks, build technologies and products, establish companies, create jobs and contribute to the regional economy.” And innovators like this, Hart says, are essential to building a more robust life sciences sector in New Jersey.
