An exciting day has arrived for Venture for America. The documentary, Generation Startup, is now showing in a limited run at the IFC theatres in New York City. The film, co-directed by Academy Award-winner Cynthia Wade and award winning filmmaker Cheryl Miller Houser, tells the Venture for America story through the experiences of six VFA Fellows in Detroit.
Founded in 2011 VFA has become a “vital and thriving community of passionate people doing outstanding work in 17 cities around the country,” described by founder Andrew Yang. Each year a crop of graduating college students are selected into the VFA program, trained and then placed into startups around the country to learn firsthand about what it entails to be an entrepreneur. Now after five years VFA is seeing the outcomes from the program that includes: 500 Fellows hired to work at over 200 startups, 2,000 related new jobs over the last five years, and 25% of alumni going on to start their owne company.
The film has received accolades from Arianna Huffington, who states, “Generation Startup is an exhilarating, uplifting, and honest look at what it really takes to launch a startup. It’s a celebration of young entrepreneurs who embrace uncertainty, take risks, and dare to fail on their path to success.”
