The Lowth Entrepreneurship Center in The University of Tampa’s Sykes College of Business is stepping back to enjoy their receipt of one of the top awards for entrepreneurship in academia.  The Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers (GCEC) presented them with the NASDAQ Center of Entrepreneurial Excellence at the 2017 GCEC annual conference held in Nova Scotia from October 12th through 14th.

The award, created by the NASDAQ in association with GCEC, is considered the highest honor that a university entrepreneurship center can receive. The award honors those centers making significant contributions to the advancement of entrepreneurship as a force in global economic growth.

The honor is bestowed for advancements in the entrepreneurial areas of:

  • Entrepreneurship research
  • Outreach to emerging ventures
  • Entrepreneurship curriculum
  • Community collaborations
  • Special projects
  • Overall prestige and recognition in the entrepreneurship field

“This award is arguably the most coveted award among entrepreneurship centers in the United States,” said Rebecca White, director of the Lowth Entrepreneurship Center and James W. Walter distinguished chair of entrepreneurship.  White sees the award as recognition of the community of students, staff, faculty and alumni who coach and mentor students in the Lowth Center.

In the prior year UT’s center was recognized with the National Model Program Award for undergraduate entrepreneurship programs by the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship® (USASBE).
