Speakers and Experts are participating in an in-person and virtual event
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is hosting on October 10th the first of a series of Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) events for student-athletes. NIL is trending and bringing monetizing opportunities to student-athletes who in the past were restricted by NCAA regulations.
The USPTO in collaboration with Arizona State University (ASU) will hold the event at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. Speakers will include experts from the USPTO and ASU, as well as student-athletes with firsthand experience securing their own NIL.
The full-day event will be followed by a networking reception for in-person attendees from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. PT.
Attendees and virtual listeners will hear key information about how to monetize their NIL:
- The basics of NIL rules and related governance
- How to build an effective brand
- Common pitfalls regarding NIL contracts
- Trademark prosecution before the USPTO
- Benefits to registering a trademark with the USPTO
As NIL has grown companies are emerging to serve this market. One entrepreneur is former student-athlete Dominyck Bullard, founder of Athletiverse, a digital platform specializing in NIL. He can be heard on the Experienced Voices™ podcast titled Dominyck Bullard l Sports Passion leads to Athletiverse, a funded scalable Startup.
Athletiverse works with athletic departments and NIL collectives, groups of alumni, and donors who are specifically brought together to help student-athletes get paid.
Registration is now open here.
