Majorca Carter

Urban revitalization strategist, entrepreneur, and real estate developer Majora Carter will be joining the Keller Center faculty this fall to teach a course titled, “Creativity, Innovation, and Design”. She brings to Princeton a wealth of design experience and an innovative nature forged throughout a career built on problem-solving and award-winning leadership across multiple disciplines.

Students will be given an understanding of the sources and processes associated with creativity, innovation, and design.  Carter considers them to be three interdependent capabilities that are essential to individual’s well-being, and that of society.  She will explore with the students the internal and external factors that influence an individual’s or group’ ability to create, innovate, and design that will yield practical and appealing designs.

“Creativity, innovation, and design are key elements in what I do and are essential to my career advancement, my social advocacy initiatives, and every project I take on,” said Carter.

She plans to focus on the importance of utilizing these skills for progressive social engagement, career advancement, and personal development.  Her insights shared with Princeton students may serve to help them in achieving success, while also having a positive impact on society.

Leading up to her decision to join the Princeton faculty, Carter had arrived at a juncture in her career where she was assessing her accomplishments and seeking to establish new priorities.  Her friend and colleague Mauricio Miller shared his experience as a visiting professor in the Keller Center. Teaching at the university would provide her the another venture to pursue, but importantly one that she is able to pass on her know-how, while she is energized and invigorated by bright, young minds.

“I am overjoyed when I see young people building on and benefiting from my experiences instead of reinventing the wheel or making the same mistakes we all made before,” said Carter.
