New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will be hosting HACKNJIT over the course of 24 hours, starting Saturday, November 7th, at 11 a.m. The event is organized and hosted by NJIT’s Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) student chapter and the College of Computing Sciences (CCS).
As a hackathon, it will be an event focused on networking, idea sharing, skill cultivating, and teamwork around technology. Nearly 200 graduate and undergraduate students representing NJIT in addition to other participating colleges will compete in teams to build new Web and mobile applications.
In a media release, NJIT’s Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) vice president stated that the hackathon will “…[give] participants an example of nonstop crunch time”, providing valuable skills to students in a real-world setting where they will be pressed for time.
In addition to acquiring experience, students will also be provided with the opportunity to network with industry professionals, as well as create personal connections. The environment offers abundant opportunities for students to learn and grow in a fun, competitive setting, with the added benefits of finding future employment and contacts within the coding and technology trade.
Contestants will compete for a first prize cash award of $1,500, second prize of $1,000, and a third prize of $500.
