UConn Research announced on September 5th the appointment of Dr. Radenka Maric as Vice President for Research (VPR). Maric, the founder of a biotech startup, is already promoting cross-disciplinary research by linking researchers across departments, campuses, and schools.
Prior to her job as VPR Maric served as the executive director for UConn’s Innovation Partnership Building, a $132 million research building currently under construction. Her promotion to VPR still places the Innovation Partnership Building under her responsibility, while increasing her capacity to connect startups and industry leaders with UConn.
Maric talked about her plans for the future of UConn Research, saying, “We want to grow our faculty; we want to grow our students; and we want to grow an increasingly strong portfolio of companies that are associated with UConn through the future Innovation Partnership Building (IPB) and other initiatives like the UConn Technology Incubation Program (TIP). We want partners that will help us build specific research clusters as part of a consortium model to show that we have the critical mass to lead.”
UConn Research is a section of the University of Connecticut dedicated to collaborative research and advancements in emerging areas in clean energy, manufacturing, hardware security, engineering, and assurance, and several other areas.
