Since the first list in 2012, the Robotics Business Review’s 50 Robotics Innovation Awards (RBR50) celebrate and offer recognition for companies with forward-thinking ideas and impactful solutions. The 2020 winners, announced by WTWH Media, picked its 50 finalists across the three categories of Business and Management; Application and Market; and Technology, Products and Services.
“For the robotics sector, the role, importance, and impact of innovation has never been greater,” said WTWH Media’s Vice President of Robotics Dan Kara. “With this year’s RBR50 Robotics Innovation Awards, Robotics Business Review highlights those critical innovations, and the organizations responsible for them, that will spur the development of new robotics solutions and drive robotics adoption forward.”
Blue Ocean Robotics, hailing from Denmark, made the list with their disinfecting hospital robots. By giving an autonomous platform an ultraviolet UV-C disinfecting lamp, the machine eliminates bacteria and pathogens like the coronavirus within 10-15 minutes of entering a patient’s room.
Including Blue Ocean Robotics, there are only 8 companies on the list from outside the US. All other 42 of the RBR50 come from the United States. Their innovations range from Boston Dynamic’s continual push for commercial-grade quadruped robots to FAULHABER MICROMO’s brand-new BTX brushless motors. Advances in computing like NVIDIA’s credit card-sized Jetson Xavier NX also hold a place on this list.
