Modern Healthcare announced their selection of the Top 25 Women Healthcare Leaders, recognizing women executives for their leadership in influencing their organizations’ policy and care delivery models and their efforts to advance diversity. Those being honored, representing all sectors of the healthcare system, have achieved major professional accomplishments that have placed them at the top of their companies or organizations.
Maxine Carrington, Northwell’s senior vice president and chief people officer, is one of twenty-five awardees. She is being honored for her innovative and transformative leadership that led to the establishing of Northwell’s framework of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).
“I am incredibly honored to be among so many successful, passionate and influential women,” said. Carrington. “Now, more than ever, advancing diversity, equity and inclusion is critical to delivering on Northwell Health’s organizational mission and goals”.
Carrington joined Northwell in 2008, bringing her commitment to a culture of collaboration and mentorship that has given Northwell women greater opportunities to advance their careers.

For those seeking to nominate a woman executive for 2023, the annual program accepts nominations for those in leadership positions at hospitals, health systems, physician organizations, insurance, government, vendors and supplier organizations, and patients’ rights groups. In addition to working in one of those areas, nominees must meet eligibility requirements that includes:
- Holding a current position of senior vice president or higher
- Having a proven track record in advancing gender equity in the C-suite through activies such as hiring/promoting female leaders or serving as a reference for candidates for leadership positions
- Being a mentor for upcoming leaders, and
- Showing achievements they have had in their organization that exceed strategic/financial/clinical goals.
Nominees must submit a resume and headshot with the option of submitting up to 5 supporting documents such as letters or recommendation and articles. The online application includes a $100 nomination fee.
A panel of judges and the top editors of Modern Healthcare evaluate all nominations and make the final honoree selections for the Top Women Leaders in Healthcare in 2022.
This year’s awardees will be honored on July 14, 2022 in the “Top Women Leaders Celebration” that is part of the “Women Leaders in Healthcare Conference”.
