At the closing of 2019’s Red Herring Top 100 North America event, 100 technology and life science companies received the honor of ranking among the continent’s best privately-held startups. Every one of them survived the rigorous scrutiny of Red Herring’s selection process that includes 20 analysis criteria and attendance at Red Herring events where judges assessed their presentations.

AEssenseGrows represents the type of startup that Red Herring seeks for the top 100. AEssense leverages new technologies to help farmers and agriculture with accelerated plant growth platforms. They contain no pesticides, work the entire year, and put sustainability first without compromising the product offered. This meets Red Herring’s standards for a venture that includes them having a technological advantage and the potential for growth, while showing experience and quality at every level.

Once an outstanding company like AEssenseGrows is found, four judges examine them before the conference, with other judges added to hear presentations at the event. The presentations help Red Herring judge not only the company’s quality, but also examine the entrepreneur and their vision. Once all of these steps are completed, a select few companies are shortlisted and take place in the final portion of the award process.

The Red Herring 100 Awards have wide recognition across the globe, drawing hundreds of candidates each year for a spot in the Top 100. Red Herring’s offerings in innovator and investor spaces extend beyond the awards, with technology newsletters, a leading innovation magazine, and a daily technology news service all available.

The announcement by Red Herring follows the National Diversity Council’s List of the Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Technology.
